Characteristics of GG20

GG20 is a type of cast iron and is a commonly used quality standard in Europe. GG20 is defined according to German standards DIN 1691. Some features of GG20 cast iron are:

  1. Chemical Composition : The typical chemical composition of GG20 cast iron includes approximately 3.4% carbon, 2% silicon, 0.5% manganese, and 0.2% phosphorus. It may also contain certain amounts of sulfur and phosphorus.
  2. Strength : GG20 cast iron is typically known to have high compressive strength and strength properties. It generally has moderately high strength levels.
  3. Machinability : GG20 has the good machinability properties typical of cast iron. It is a material suitable for good shaping ability and surface treatment.
  4. Wear Resistance : GG20 can be a wear-resistant material. This feature is related to the strength-increasing effect of the graphite structure on the surface of cast iron.
  5. Corrosion Resistance : GG20 can be protected against corrosion with appropriate protective coatings or surface treatments. However, it is prone to corrosion in direct water contact or high humidity conditions.

GG20 cast iron is commonly used in the automotive industry, machinery manufacturing, agricultural equipment, the construction industry and many other industrial applications. It is especially preferred in the production of parts requiring medium strength.
